Dr Fredrick Raghaviah was one among other stalwarts who were instrumental to start the Tamilnadu branch of the SOCIETY FOR THE STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL MEDICINE in 1950s then the present association called.
Dr Raghviaha had his early education in Andhra – Nellore district of the then Madras Province and had his medical education in the Stanley Medical School. After qualification, he joined in the Armed forces and served in the Army till the end of World War II.
He joined as one of the Medical Officers of then, Buckingham and Carnatic Mills, Madras till his retirement. During his tenure as Medical Officer of the mill, he showed keen interest in the health and family welfare of the workers. Besides, he showed keen interest in Scount movements and St. Johns Ambulance Association.
He took active part in starting the Tamilnadu branch along with contemporarians like Dr V N C Rao of Binny & CO, Dr K G Sadagopan of EID Parry, Nellikuppam, Dr Krishnan of Mettur Chemicals, Maj A Devasagayam of Simpsons Group, Madras and Dr C M Ramakrishnan of Tramways of Madras.
First registration of the ‘Society for the study of Industrial Medicine’ registered at Patna:

Lt Col Najib Khan and Maj R C Tarapore were elected First President, Secretary and Treasurer respectively for the All India Level. The name of the society was changed into "INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH” in the year 1969.
