Dr. G ARJUNDAS ORATION

Dr. G. Arjundas, born on September 7, 1929, is a distinguished neurologist whose immense contributions to the field have significantly shaped medical practices in India. He holds multiple prestigious qualifications, including MD, FRCP (Edinburgh), FIAMS, and FASc.

Dr. Arjundas began his academic journey with premedical education at Loyola College, a Jesuit institution noted for its excellence, followed by his medical training at the prestigious Madras Medical College, one of India's oldest and most acclaimed medical schools. He graduated with an MBBS in 1952, obtaining remarkable honors in Anatomy and Physiology.

 

His commitment to advancing his expertise led him to complete postgraduate studies in General Medicine, followed by specialized training in neurology at leading institutions such as the National Institute of Neurology in London and New York University Hospital. Dr. Arjundas further enriched his clinical skills with training in stereotactic surgery in Tokyo, Japan.

Dr. Arjundas's upright character as a pioneer in Indian neurology is recognized through his early election as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1967, highlighting his groundbreaking contributions to the field. He was also awarded fellowships from the National Academy of Medical Sciences in 1983 and the National Academy of Sciences in India for his impactful work in Neuro Sciences.

As a prolific educator,Dr. Arjundas has dedicated his career to teaching and training future neurologists and contributing to numerous medical associations. His leadership roles include serving as President of the Neurological Society of India and the Indian Association of Occupational Health.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Arjundas has made remarkable strides in clinical research, particularly in areas such as Tuberculous Meningitis, Epilepsy, and Stroke. His innovative
approaches to EEG technology assessments have established him as a key figure in his field.

Dr. Arjundas remains actively engaged in medical practice as a visiting professor at the Institute of Neurology-Madras Medical College and continues to influence the next generation of medical professionals while providing expert consultation.

Beyond his medical career, Dr. Arjundas enjoys sports, music, and travel, and has actively participated in numerous national and international congresses throughout his professional life. Among his numerous accolades, he was appointed a consultant to the President of India and received the "Neurologist of the Millennium" award by the Neurological Society of India in 2000.
