About Dr A Devasagayam

Dr A Devasagayam, one of the founder members of the Tamilnadu Chapter of ‘Society for the study of Industrial Medicine’ along with his contemporarians like Dr A Peters, Dr V N C Rao of Buckingham and Carnatic Mills, Dr K G Sadagopan of EID Parry Ltd, Nellikuppam etc.,

After completing his earlier education at Jaffna, Colombo he joined as one of the student of ‘School of Allopathic Medicine’, Stanley Medical College, Madras. After completing, he joined in the armed services and worked in army for quite a number of years till he retired as Major.

He joined as a Medical Officer in the Simpsons Medical Centre and after completing nearly 2 decades of services in the Amalgamation Group of Companies, he retired as its Chief Medical Officer.

Then, at an early stage he took active part in the beginning stage of Sir Ivan Stadford Hospital, Ambattur, Chennai.

He was the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Tamilnadu branch of the Association and held all the posts in the national level also. He represented India at the Asian Conference held in Tokyo, Japan and presented a paper on behalf of the Tamilnadu branch.

In the early stages, he took keen interest in “Scounts” movement and St. Johns Association of India. He was one of the Philanthropist of the days and he was the Honorary Medical Officer for Slum Dwellers Association and old age camps.

He took active part in the activities of the Association, and after his demise, the Tamilnadu Branch started and honoured him by creating this Memorial Lecture.
