Dr. G ARJUNDAS ORATION

Dr. G. Arjundas, a distinguished figure in the field of neurology and medicine. Born on September 7, 1929, Dr. Arjundas has dedicated his life to advancing medical science and education in India.

Dr. Arjundas began his journey in medicine with a premedical education at Loyola College, followed by his medical degree (MBBS) from the prestigious Madras Medical College, where he excelled and graduated in 1952. He later completed his MD in General Medicine in 1956. His pursuit of knowledge led him to specialized training in neurology at renowned institutions, including the National Institute of Neurology in London and New York University Hospital.
 

In recognition of his significant contributions to neurology, Dr. Arjundas was conferred several prestigious fellowships, including the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 1967, making him one of the youngest recipients in India. He is also a fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and the Indian Academy of Neurology.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Arjundas has held key positions in various medical associations, including serving as the President of the Neurological Society of India. He has organized numerous conferences, conducted significant research, and published extensively on various neurological disorders, making substantial impacts in the fields of stroke, epilepsy, and tuberculous meningitis.

At Madras Medical College, he was instrumental in establishing the Department of Electroencephalography, introducing innovative techniques that have since become standard practice across India. He has also contributed significantly to the training of future generations of neurologists, neurologists, and allied medical professionals.

Dr. Arjundas remains active as a visiting professor at the Institute of Neurology, Madras Medical College, where he continues to inspire and educate the next generation of medical professionals. His passion for medicine is matched only by his love for sports and travel, as he has represented his college in cricket and tennis and actively participates in national and international congresses.
In addition to his clinical and academic accomplishments, Dr. Arjundas has received numerous accolades for his service to medicine, including the "For the Sake of Honour" award by the Rotary Club and recognition as the "Neurologist of the Millennium" by the Neurological Society of India.
